A View Into Albert Pesso’s Typical Work and Travels
(article from the upcoming newsletter) Albert Pesso (co-founder of PBSP - Pesso Boyden System Psychomotor with his wife, Diane Boyden-Pesso) returned in December from an eight-week working trip to Europe where he taught groups of professional psychologists, psychiatrists, psychoanalysts and other psychotherapists who are enrolled in long term PBSP certification training programs. He and Diane began making such trips to Europe to train psychotherapists in PBSP in the early ‘70’s. Al Pesso continues to this day with such long working tours, making them several times per year while Diane oversees the operations of the international headquarters for PBSP. Currently these training programs are sponsored by various PBSP organizations throughout Europe. Most of the groups are administered by the international coordinator of PBSP training, Dr. Lowijs Perquin. Dr. Perquin is a senior trainer in PBSP; he is also on the faculty of the Psychiatry Department of the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. On this particular trip, starting out on October 9th, Al first taught a PBSP training group in Copenhagen, Denmark; he then traveled to Sint Niklaas, Belgium where he taught the eighth group of psychotherapists to be enrolled in that country’s four year PBSP training program. He went on to Hamburg, Germany, to lead the second Osnabruecke PBSP certification training program. Then to Munich where he initiated Munich’s third PBSP certification training group. In Amsterdam, Holland (where PBSP has been taught and used routinely in clinics, hospitals and by psychotherapists in private practice since the early 1970s) Albert Pesso taught the 11th and 12th certification training groups and then he led a continuing education program for post graduate students in PBSP. While in Amsterdam, Al Pesso was interviewed for two days for the second PBSP documentary to appear on TV in Holland. In Basel, Switzerland, Al taught the 8th Basel PBSP certification training group there and then led an experiential PBSP program. From October 28th through 31st, Al attended the 6th International Congress of Body-Psychotherapy, in Ischia, Italy entitled THE PSYCHOTHERAPY OF THE FUTURE: From Healing to Life where he was a featured speaker and led a workshop. Next, Al flew to Prague, Czech Republic (at the same time President Bush was there for the NATO summit). In Prague, Al taught the First Certification Training Group for that city. He also met with Dr. Jiri Horacek, professor at Charles University to establish a research program on the application and utility of PBSP with victims of Trauma. Dr. Horacek is one of the foremost experts in using FMRI (Functional Resonance Imaging) equipment. FMRI is a state of the art tool in tracking neurological changes in fully awake subjects. Next Al went to an estate in the English countryside near London, to teach the 1st English PBSP training program for management consultants. After that Al led a special Young Peoples experiential workshop in London. Upon his return from Europe, Al spent two days in Boston working with clients of Betta van der Kolk, LCSW. Betta van der Kolk is studying PBSP and applies it in her private practice. Next, Al spent a day lecturing on PBSP to post graduate students at the Trauma Center, a division of the Human Resources Institute Hospital, in Boston MA which is under the direction of Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, an international expert on PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). Dr. Van der Kolk is a professor in the Psychiatry Department at the Medical School of Boston University. After that, Al led a weekend experiential PBSP workshop in Franklin, NH, which was immediately followed by a day of supervision for members of the Northeast long term PBSP Certification Training Program. Currently [12/29/02], as he has for the past six years and more, Al has been applying PBSP principles as a consultant to high-level managers and executives in one to one consultations and group sessions. On occasion Diane joins him in this work as she has when they travel to do one to one sessions with celebrity clients. This year Albert Pesso and Diane Boyden-Pesso have also been utilizing videoconferencing when working with international executives; they look forward to using this medium in the future for training purposes as well.
