Return to What's New? Emailing of November, 2005 Nathan Cummings Foundation Awards Grant to Psychomotor Institute Diane and I are very pleased that the Board of Directors of the Nathan Cummings Foundation has voted to award a grant to the Psychomotor Institute for the following purpose: The funding requested will be used to contract with a consulting firm to identify PBSP's organizational capacity, strengths, and challenges in the areas of:
1. Organizational development and strategic planning
2. Communications which includes mission development, reframing brand identities, media and press relations, web site redesign, and marketing
3. Development which includes organizational budget/income assessment, and revenue capacity in the areas of fundraising, products, income projections, and program related initiatives that are associated with fund development.
We expect that the firm will conduct necessary research, due diligence, information collecting, one-one meetings with key principals and other activities it deems necessary in order to outline a clearly defined execution strategy for each of the three identified areas listed above. Upon completion, a report will be generated addressing the firm's findings and recommendations. November-December As I write this, I am in the second month of a two month long series of (mostly) training workshops in Europe and longing to be home. Nonetheless, it has been exhilarating to see the growth and professional development of the PBSP trainees here. Our European training faculty, under the careful and astute leadership of Lowijs Perquin, MD, who is the International Coordinator of PBSP training programs, is doing a wonderful job. At present our European faculty consists of Tjeerd Jongsma, MD, Lowijs Perquin, MD, Liesbeth deBoer, Ph.D., and Willy van Haver, Ph.D. In the near future this roster will be expanded as those who are presently completing their training as PBSP supervisors enter the next stage and become trained as trainers.
My hip is doing great. I can walk easily without a cane, though I find it a fantastic tool to get special treatment at airports and train stations. I am doing exercises in preparation to actually run, though what I am doing can only described as "virtual running." It looks like slow motion running -- rising and falling without going into the air yet -- but soon I will actually leave the ground in-between strides. I have secretly tried leaving the ground without anyone looking (including some part of myself) and something like a real run is brewing just below the surface. Soon it will come to full bloom -- a leaping flower? Brewing and blooming? I am getting intoxicated with the elixir of mixed metaphors. I am soberly excited about the grant approval. Diane and I are sure much will come of it as the consulting firm recommended by the Cummings Foundation is of the highest caliber and has had long experience with high-performing, international, service-oriented organizations. We will keep you posted.
