PBSP Research
Future PBSP Prague Research Memo from Albert Pesso May, 2006 Jiri Horacek and I met in Prague, December 7th, to review our joint research program (which has just been published in the Czech journal Psychiatrie) and to discuss plans.for future research. Dr. Horacek told me that he will begin collecting data on a control group -- of the the same diagnostic category as those in our test group -- who will not receive any therapy intervention so their brain scans can be compared to our tested group. During our meeting, I told Dr. Horacek of my intense desire to learn more about the neurological consequences of auditory, verbal input on the mind's eye and the mind's body of clients when they hear stories in their childhood about long dead family members' lives and personal deficits. While leading structures on Holes in Roles I am deeply struck by the effect that these stories have on those clients' present emotional and physical states. Further, I am amazed by the effect that the new history of filling those holes in roles with appropriate kinship figures other than themselves -- for in their unconscious mind's eye and mind's body they themselves have filled those roles -- has on their present body state. And especially their readiness to receive new input and have their own needs met by ideal figures in their structures. Since we are only making stories that they can hear and see with their real eyes and ears in the room -- if they have accommodators -- or with their minds' eyes if they are only using objects or imagining those healing figures, the neurological consequences of the structures must result in laying down new synthetic memories made possible by these same neurological pathways and connections. To my amazement and delight, Dr. Horacek said there is now some new equipment called LORETA that can be used to track just those kinds of neurological events using an advanced form of EEG. He suggested that we hook up a client about to partake of a structure with the LORETTA EEG, heart rate and blood pressure equipment and EMG hookup. The structure will be videotaped and all this data will be synchronized and then reviewed in conjunction to what is heard and seen during the structure. We decided on May 11and 12, 2006 for this new exploration. Our goal is not so much to prove the efficacy of PBSP as to give us data that illuminates the profound neurological linkages that take place as a consequence of what we see and hear in ordinary life and in structures. |
